Medical University of Varna Prof. Dr. Paraskev Stoyanov

The Medical University of Varna is a prestigious academic society which holds countless traditions and more than 50 years of history. It is one of best, most innovative and developed universities in the country.

The University of Varna has a long tradition regarding medical education;  more than 22,000 doctors in Medicine graduated at this University since it was founded in 1960. More than 1,500 international students from more than 45 different countries have studied at this University. Moreover, it provides international students with many resources in order to make their first steps in the city easier.

The academic and administrative staff are highly student-oriented, so all of them make their greatest effort to achieve that your university studies become one of the best education experiences ever. One of the main goals of the University is the academic success of the students. This  is reached thanks to a renowned academic staff and the use of the most innovative and modern techniques, as well as the latest learning methods.

The degree programmes of the University meet all the requirements and standards established by the Euopean Union and the academic staff takes part in international exchange programmes for continuing education.

Since 1961, the University has gained an excellent reputation and international prestige, which has caught the attention of the best students. During the academic year 2013/2014, more than 4,500 students are hosted by the University. Those come from all parts in the world: Spain, Norway, Portugal, Austria, United Kingdom, USA, Germany, Italy, Canada, Jordan, Kazakhstan, Lebanon, Israel or Sweden, among others.

The University of Varna was the first institution in the country to join the Model of the European Fundation for the Quality Managemet (EFWM) for Business Excenllence. Furthermore, the University belongs to the European University Association and takes part in several international projects – ERASMUS, TEMPUS, SOCRATES, Leonardo DA VINCI, continuing education programmes, etc.

From the very beginning, the University has focused all its attention on practical teaching. This way, the special practical rooms and labs are equipped with the best facilities in order to offer a proper teaching process and to promote research activities. The University has carried out an expansion project, led by the construction of the new University Hospital, which will not only benefit professors and students, but also all the inhabitannts of the northeast of Bulgaria.

The Faculty of Medicine is a basic unit of the University made out of 17 departments. There, the doctors in Medicine who are awarded with the Medicine Doctor’s Degree undertake their studies, which meet all the European standards. Here you can also find many speciality programmes and postgraduate courses. The academic staff of the Faculty is formed by 217 professors. 9,380 students, 2,330 of which coming from abroad, have graduated at the University since its founding. During the academic year 2012/2013, the University hosted 208 international students.

The Faculty of Dental Medicine started its academic activity in 2006 and it consists of 5 departments which host 77 professors. In this Faculty, the Dentistry training is developed, ending with the Dental Medicine Doctor’s Degree, which meets all the European standards. At this Faculty there are also postgraduate and speciality programmes. A new building was erected in 2008 containing the latest technologies. Thus, this Faculty of Dental Medicine is one of the youngests and most modern in the Balkan countries.

At the Public Health Faculty the students can take the degree programmes of Nursing, Public Health, Midwifery and Healthcare.

The Faculty of Pharmacy was founded in 2008 and it hosts the Pharmacy degree programmes.
