The Republic of Bulgaria

Bulgaria is the land of sun, roses and spas. It is a beautiful country with charming towns and cities, spectacular mountains, magnificent monasteries and tourist resorts.

Location

Bulgaria is located in southeastern Europe, at the heart of the Balkan Peninsula. The country is bordered by Romania to the north (following the river Danube), Serbia, Montenegro and the Republic of Macedonia to the west, Greece and Turkey to the south and the Black Sea to the east.

Climate

Bulgaria has a moderate continental climate, with four distinct seasons and plenty of sunlight all year round. The average temperature in winter is 0º C, whereas in summer temperatures can reach 35º C.

Language

The official language is Bulgarian. Other languages spoken include English, German, French and Russian.

Religion

The religious affiliations of the country’s citizens are as follows: 85% Christian Orthodox, 13% Muslim and a minority of Roman Catholics, Jews and Protestants.
