Student life in Pleven
Language
During your time in Pleven, you will be able to get by in your day-to-day life by speaking English. Young people in particular speak very good English, often better than the English spoken in Spanish-speaking countries. Therefore, you will be able to practice your English on a daily basis and become an advanced speaker in a very short period of time.
English is the language used throughout the degree programme – classes, exams and study materials are all in English. Your results will never depend on your ability to speak the local language.
After your first year, you will take a Bulgarian course for beginners in order to achieve a basic knowledge of the language, as you will need it during your internships at the hospital. It is one of the easiest courses in the degree programme. However, we would like to stress that the official language of the degree programme is English.
Accommodation
Pleven Medical University has two Halls of Residence with over 400 beds. There are double and triple rooms and are all equipped with central heating and a private bathroom. The price ranges from 50 to 70 euros per month.

Transport
You can travel from Spain to Sofia, the capital of Bulgaria, with Bulgaria Air and Wizz Air. Airlines such as Iberia, Czech Airlines and Ryanair offer flights to a number of other European cities. The journey from Sofia to Pleven takes an hour and a half (170 km) and there are many transport options to choose from to travel between these two cities.
The trolleybus, with a 75 km electrical circuit, is the main means of transport in the city. Other options for getting around Pleven include buses (14 routes) and taxis.
